This agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Awais Kamran, who runs Book My Talk (“we”, “us”). They apply when you use bookmytalk.dev, whether you create a speaker page or send a request as an organizer. Using the service means you accept them. If you don't, please don't use it.
If you use Book My Talk for a conference, university, company or community, you confirm you're allowed to act for it. The privacy policy explains how we handle personal data and is part of these terms.
Who can use it
- You must be at least 16.
- A speaker page must be for you, or for someone who has asked you to run it for them.
- Organizers don't need an account, but must be organizing, or helping to organize, the event they send a request for.
Your account and link
You sign in with your email or your Google account. Keep access to them secure, because whoever controls them controls your page. Tell us at hello@bookmytalk.dev if you think someone else has got in.
Links are first come, first served, and you can change yours once. A link must not impersonate anyone or use a name or trademark you have no right to. We may change or take back a link that does.
What you publish
You're responsible for what you put on your page: your profile, bios, headshot, talks, availability, prices and backstage details. Keep it accurate, and only upload what you have the right to use.
Your content stays yours. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, format and display it as needed to run Book My Talk. That covers your public page, posters and link previews made from it, search engine listings if you allow them, backstage passes you issue, and the emails and calendar events that come with requests. The licence ends when you delete your page, apart from copies already shared, downloaded or held in short-lived backups.
Requests and bookings
- Organizers must send genuine requests with accurate details about themselves and the event.
- Speakers decide freely. They don't have to accept, reply to, or explain a decision on any request.
- The availability calendar is a guide. Calendars can be out of date, and a day showing free isn't a promise. A booking exists only once the speaker accepts.
- An accepted request is an arrangement between the speaker and the organizer. Book My Talk isn't a party to it, an agent for either side, or an employer, and doesn't guarantee that anyone turns up, pays or does what they agreed.
- Fees, travel, accommodation, recording rights, cancellations and anything else about the event are for the speaker and organizer to agree between themselves.
Paid tickets
Speakers can show a price on some request types, such as Buy me a coffee. Book My Talk doesn't process payments or take a cut. Payment is arranged directly between the speaker and the organizer, who are responsible for it, for any refund, and for any tax that applies.
Backstage passes
A backstage pass carries a speaker's private details so the event can run. If you receive one:
- Share it only with the people who need it to run the event, such as whoever handles travel, access or the speaker's day.
- Don't forward it to anyone else, publish it, or use the details on it for anything other than the event.
- Delete any copies you made once the event is over, unless the speaker agrees otherwise.
- Handle the details in line with the data protection laws that apply to you.
A pass stops working at the end of the day after the event, and the speaker can revoke it at any time. Speakers can see when and how often their pass is opened.
Fair use
Don't use Book My Talk to:
- send spam, or bulk or automated requests;
- harass, threaten or abuse anyone, or post hateful content;
- impersonate someone, or misrepresent who you are or who you're organizing for;
- publish anything illegal, or anything that infringes someone else's rights;
- collect speakers' or organizers' details by scraping or other automated means;
- get around rate limits, blocks or security, reach data that isn't yours, or upload malicious code;
- resell the service, or put it behind a paywall of your own.
If you find a security problem, please tell us at hello@bookmytalk.dev before telling anyone else, and don't access more data than you need to show it. We welcome reports made in good faith.
Google, LinkedIn and others
Signing in with Google and connecting Google Calendar are also governed by Google's terms. Sharing to LinkedIn is governed by LinkedIn's. We aren't responsible for those services, and when they change or go down, the parts of Book My Talk that rely on them may stop working.
Feedback
Ideas and bug reports are welcome on the feedback page. If you send one, we may use it to improve Book My Talk without owing you anything for it.
Our name and site
The Book My Talk name, logo and design belong to us. You may show them as part of sharing your own page, poster or pass, but these terms don't give you any other right to use them.
Suspension and deletion
You can stop using Book My Talk at any time. Speakers can delete their page from the profile screen, which removes everything attached to it.
We may remove content, block requests, or suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms or puts other people at risk. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you why. Sections that by their nature should outlast your use, such as the pass rules, disclaimers and limits on liability, keep applying.
Changes to the service
Book My Talk is free and still early, so features will change, and some may be added, limited or removed. If paid features arrive, they'll be optional, and nothing you already use will start costing money without your agreement. If we ever shut Book My Talk down, we'll email speakers at least 30 days before.
No guarantees
Book My Talk is provided “as is” and “as available”. We don't promise it will always be online, free of errors, or that availability shown on any page is correct. We don't check who speakers and organizers are, and we don't guarantee that they are who they say, or that they will do what they agree. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded.
Limits on liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost income, missed bookings, cancelled events, travel costs or lost data, or for anything a speaker or organizer does. Because Book My Talk is free, our total liability for any claim about it is limited to 50 US dollars.
These limits don't apply to death or personal injury caused by our negligence, to fraud, or to anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
Changes to these terms
We'll post any changes here and update the date at the top. For changes that matter, we'll also email speakers before they take effect. Using Book My Talk after a change means you accept the new terms.
The small print
- If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- You can't transfer your rights under these terms without our agreement. We can transfer ours to a new owner of Book My Talk, who would have to keep to them.
- These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Book My Talk.
